In technology, a gender drop-down menu is an interface component that allows users of an application to select a single gender choice from a set of pre-defined options. Due to the limited nature of these selection options, this may cause certain populations of gender-variant individuals to have problems using the application.
Current implementations[]
Although the majority of gender drop-down menus implemented today only include options for male and female, (which are arguably not genders, but descriptions of sex; see Differences between gender and sex) some applications, notably prominent web sites like Digg.com, are taking a more progressive approach.
